Bio :
I have been into fitness since high school. The chubby young girl decided that a change was needed & she joined a Chicago Health Club. I learned about exercises and what parts of the body they worked by reading many many books. Alignment has always been part of my fine eye. While in high school and throughout college, I worked as a mechanical draftsperson. So precision and alignment are key and I now translate that as I observe peoples postures. I worked out up until the day of each of my son's births.
After college I went to law school, passed the Illinois Bar and practiced law for four years. I realized during those four years, that law was not for me; but, the essence of helping people still was. Nonetheless, while law school may not have a direct impact on teaching fitness, it is the same legal education that I have, that ensures that my clients get facts - based on scientific studies. No BS here.
In 1996, I was approached by the then Fitness Director of our local YMCA to get a Personal Training certificate to get paid for what I was sharing with fellow members, since so many would ask me about different exercises and workouts. I worked for the YMCA as a personal trainer and spin instructor for about 2 years and then ventured out on my own. I had a young family and having an in-home studio gave me the opportunity to take care of clients when they needed me as well as tend to my family.
I began studying and practicing yoga in 2000, took my teacher training in 2002. I am certified through Forrest Yoga and the Yoga Alliance.
I incorporate both personal training and yoga in my student’s program. Sometimes they need one discipline more than the other, but it is on a case-by-case basis that I assess this. Nonetheless, balance, strength, flexibility, visualization, and mental training are always incorporated to help achieve the goals of the client. This is our holistic approach to training the body and mind to achieve greatness and fierceness.
I grow my own organic vegetable garden and ensure that we eat pastured pigs and cows. What we eat is important to the health of my family and myself. I enjoy hosting once or twice/year thank you parties for my clients; and I cook all the food for them.
My boys are now grown up (26, 22, & 19). So I'm ready now to give people the best of me.
